SIZE AND COVERAGE
Cholla Viejo Series Tile has an overall size of 17'' x 7'' at the large end tapering to 5.5'' at the smaller end. With the recommended 2'' overlap and 8'' spacing, 250 tiles will cover 100 square feet. Rustic installation with curving rows and multiple stacks may require 5-10% more.
WEIGHT
Tiles weight approximately 3.5 pounds each. The installed weight per 100 square feet is approximately 840 pounds. With total immersion of the tile in water; saturation will occur in 10 to 15 minutes, which will add approximately one pound per tile. This will give a total saturated weight of 1080 pounds per square. Mortared tile may add approximately 300 to 400 pounds per square depending on the amount of mortar used and the type of installation.
PLACEMENT OF TILE
4'' is normally cut from a tile and used as a booster, the remainder of the tile is used as a starter. All tiles are to be fastened to the roof with corrosion resistant nails or an approved tile tie. In all applications; hip, ridge, gable, and first row of cover tile shall be set in mortar or roofing mastic as well as nailed. Nail holes for rakes can be drilled with a masonry bit. All tile set in mortar should be immersed or sprayed with water before installation.
